회화책 4에 나온 표현들과 함께 무료로 다운받은 뉴스에스프레소를 공부해보려고 한다 

 

 

새로운 단어들이 엄청 많았다...

 

 

* urging - 주장하다

- the doctor urged me to exercise muscles to less pain and to restore healthy body. 

 

* called upon : 호출하다 / 요청하다 

- in this meeting, the manager called upon each team member to share their ideas for the new project

rank-and-file : 평사원의 

- 이 표현이 제일 특이했는데 군대에서 나온 표현이라고 한다 

일반적인 직장이나 조직에서도 “rank-and-file”은 상위 관리직이나 특별한 직책을 가진 사람들에 대응하여 기본적인 직무를 수행하는 일반 직원을 뜻합니다. 이런 식으로 표현되는 이유는 군대의 조직 체계에서 유래되어, 일반 직원들을 계층 구조의 가장 밑바닥에 있는 이들로 묘사하기 때문입니다. - 출처: 네이버 

 

get beyond :위기를 넘기다 

she exercise hard to get beyond her pain of light ankle.

to get beyond the confusion :혼란을 극복하기 위해 

 

dog :괴롭히다 

it's not nice to dog someone by making fun of them at school 

 

fiasco : 완전 낭패 = 폭망 

trying to fix the broken computer without any help turned out to be a complete fiasco 

the party was a fiasco because~~~

 

fabulously : 엄청나게, 환상적으로, 매우 훌륭하게 

his new car looks fabulously sleek and fast

 

unparalleled : 비할데없어 - 뒤에 이 그룹에서 비할데가 없다는 표현이 같이 들어와야함 

 

• "Her dedication to helping others is unparalleled in our community."
  • 해석: 그녀의 다른 사람을 돕기 위한 헌신은 우리 커뮤니티에서 비할 데 없어.
• "The view from the top of the mountain was unparalleled, with breathtaking scenery all around."
  • 해석: 산 꼭대기에서 본 경치는 비교할 수 없을 정도로 멋졌어, 주변이 숨막힐 듯 아름다웠어.
• "His ability to solve complex math problems is unparalleled among his classmates."
  • 해석: 그의 복잡한 수학 문제를 푸는 능력은 그의 반 친구들 중에서 비할 데 없어.

 

 

make the case: 주장하다 : 주장을 정당화하다 

as directly as he can : 그가 할 수 있는 한 직접적으로

take a bet :내기하다

ahead of time :~전에 / 미리/ 사전에 / 부사처럼 사용! 

- "It's a good idea to arrive at the airport ahead of time to avoid missing your flight."

- "She planned her birthday party ahead of time to make sure everything was perfect."

 

 be prone to :~하기 쉽다 

espouse : 옹호하다
