* pandemic struck the world 

struck: 충격을 주다로 갑작스러운 사건이 일어났을때 쓰인다 

- a powerful earthquake struck the city, leaving thousands homeless loss their houses

- when the financial crisis struck, many company were forced to close down.

 

* it was hit expecially hard 

hit hard라는 표현을 잘 쓰지 않았었는데 어떤 대상이 강한 충격이나 피해를 받았다는 의미로 사용된다고 한다

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

* turn to : 의지하다, 지금 있는 곳은 해결이 안되니 다른 곳으로 눈을 돌리다 

- in times of trouble, she always turns to her best friend for advice.

- as the situation worsened, they had no choice but to turn to the government for support. 

staggering 

- after losing his job, he turned to painting as a way to cope with the stress. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

* all concert were conceled, leaving concert halls empty around the world

 

 이문장을 직독직해하면 모든 콘서트는 취소되었다 전세계 콘서트홀이 비게 놔누면서로 해석되는데 

좀 해석이 어색했다 

이때 leaving을 결과적으로 ~하게 만들었다로 해석하면 

모든 콘서트가 취소되었고 그 결과 전세계 콘서트홀이 비게 되었다
